Count wall studs from wall length and on-center spacing, then estimate total cost using price per stud and a waste allowance.
Stud count follows spacing along the wall: convert length and OC to the same units, then use ceil(length ÷ OC) + 1 for the number of stud positions including both ends.
Typical OC spacings are 16 in, 19.2 in, and 24 in. Add a waste percentage (often around 15%) to size your order; total cost is studs to buy × price per stud.
On-center (OC) spacing is measured between stud centers. Common spacings are 16 in, 19.2 in, and 24 in.
