The Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) measures soldier fitness across three events — push-ups, sit-ups, and a 2-mile run — with a maximum possible score of 300 points. The APFT score calculator takes your sex, age, and performance in all three events, then returns your total score instantly using age- and sex-normed scoring tables.

The APFT calculator is a military fitness scoring tool that calculates your Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) score based on your sex, age, and performance in three events. Each event is scored from 0 to 100 points using age- and sex-specific standards, giving a maximum possible total of 300 points.

What Is the APFT?

The Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) is the U.S. Army's standardized fitness assessment that measures muscular strength, endurance, and cardiovascular fitness of soldiers. It consists of three events — push-ups, sit-ups, and a 2-mile run — each scored from 0 to 100 points. A minimum score of 60 in each event is required to pass, for a minimum passing total of 180 points out of 300.

Note on Current Standards

The APFT was the Army's standard fitness test but was replaced by the ACFT (Army Combat Fitness Test), which has since been updated to the AFT (Army Fitness Test) standards. The APFT calculator remains relevant for historical records and legacy scoring reference.

The APFT Scoring Formula

Push-ups Score + Sit-ups Score + 2-Mile Run Score = Total APFT Score

  • Each event is scored from 0 to 100 points

  • Maximum total score: 300 points

  • Minimum passing score per event: 60 points

  • Minimum passing total: 180 points

Scores for each event are determined by mapping raw performance (reps or time) to official age- and sex-specific scoring tables.

How the APFT Calculator Works

Inputs

  • Sex — default: Male (also: Female)

  • Age — your age in years

Your Scores Inputs

  • Push-ups — total push-ups completed in 2 minutes (/2 min)

  • Sit-ups — total sit-ups completed in 2 minutes (/2 min)

  • 2-mile run time — total run time (min/sec)

Results

  • APFT score — auto-calculated total points out of 300

How to Use the APFT Calculator — Step by Step

Example 1: Male, Age 25

Sex = Male, Age = 25. Push-ups in 2 min = 55 reps. Sit-ups in 2 min = 60 reps. 2-mile run = 14 min 30 sec.

Enter all values — the calculator maps each result to the age- and sex-specific scoring table and returns the total APFT score instantly.

Example 2: Checking Minimum Pass Threshold

To pass the APFT, a soldier must score at least 60 points in each of the three events. Enter your push-up count, sit-up count, and run time — if any single event scores below 60, the result is a failing score regardless of the total.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a 270 APFT score?

A score of 270 out of 300 is considered an excellent result — averaging 90 points per event. It typically indicates superior fitness and is often associated with the Army Physical Fitness Badge award threshold.

How many push-ups in 2 minutes for the Army?

The number of push-ups needed to score well depends on your age group and sex. For example, men aged 22–26 need approximately 71 push-ups in 2 minutes to score 100 points — enter your exact count into the APFT calculator for your age-specific score.

What is the minimum passing score for the APFT?

The minimum passing score is 60 points per event, for a total minimum of 180 out of 300. Failing any single event below 60 points results in an overall failing score regardless of your total.

How is the APFT score calculated?

The total score is the sum of points earned in push-ups, sit-ups, and the 2-mile run — each scored from 0 to 100 using age- and sex-normed tables. A perfect score of 300 requires 100 points in every event.
